Can I make a compensation claim?

A caesarean section claim can be made when injury is suffered as a result of substandard medical care.

A cesarean section, sometimes called a C-section, is an operation to deliver a baby through a cut made in the mother’s abdomen and womb. It is a major operation, but it is common in the UK, with around 1 in 4 mothers giving birth this way.

These are risky operations and errors, mistakes and accidents can occur during the procedure.

Mothers who have undergone C-sections are at a greater risk of incisional hernias and adhesions. All surgery performed on the abdomen therefore needs to be approached with care to avoid injuries to the abdominal organs. Other errors involving caesarean sections include:

  • surgical mistakes resulting in nerve damage
  • infections
  • scarring
  • delay
